Take-home mementos lasting reminders and wedding favors |

September 11, 2003 By: Skylar Rhodes Take-home mementos lasting reminders and wedding favorsA reception -- with its food, drinks, wedding cake and celebratory atmosphere -- provides a newly married couple the chance to share their joy with friends and family. But when the party's over and it's time to go home, they're sending their guests away with increasingly unusual keepsakes as reminders of the couple's special day, wedding industry experts say. From key chains featuring the happy couple to personalized chocolates, brides are looking for ways to convey thanks inexpensively but with a personal touch, says local wedding planner Tory Cooper. Personalized chocolates can cost as low as 89 cents apiece while a crystal vase or candy dish as much as $9 each. "Everyone is looking for the latest and greatest ways to make their weddings unique," says Ted Morgan, director of sales for Remembrance Cards. Modeled after the prayer cards common at Catholic funerals, Remembrance Cards feature a wallet-size photo of a bride and groom along with a special message from the couple, Morgan says. Pricewise, they're on the low-end of wedding favors at 95 cents per card. The cards are an alternative to the old standbys of ribbon-tied scrolls, swizzle sticks, bubbles or matches, Morgan says, because guests are more likely to keep a picture than they are to keep a generic souvenir.
